NPUL Inauguration - english version

League has started, discs have been casted ,grass maltreated and t-shirts filthed. Luckily nobody has frozen to death. There were even some people standing on tribunes claping their hands and cheering up players who played last outdoor tournament in Poland this season. Intensity of games was quite big cause playing 4 games during 5 hours is not a piece of cake. I may even say it’s a new polish record.In absolutely tremendous atmosphere of ’spirit’ 5 teams played 10 games. Many of supporters and observers had possibility to see the value of Ultimate Frisbee.What is more our captain made his first lay-out ever!

October 31, 8:00 a.m. … Astro team gather on the fields to prepair the whole place.To measure fields, make lines ,put out banners , bring water ,food and so on. We also put cakes and tees on tables ,cause our moms , wifes and lovers had cooked totally delicious ones. Plus some sport candys aka bananas to boost players with energy! In the meantime players from different cities were coming to the object and everything went according to the plan. At 10 o’clock 4 teams after warm up stood on the lines against each other.

Astro Disco played against Tits aided by Dawid, Miki, Jasny, Szopen and Justyna from Uwaga Pies team. Astro started with Zone Defence. Classic one with 3 players in cup. Even though there was hardly any wind it worked quite well and Tits were loosing disc very often unnable to gain more than quarter of the field. Handlers tried to be as calm as possible and instead of a quick counter tried to get further on the field with few short in-field passes. But it didn’t last long and one of our players threw a huck but usually it was to obvious for defenders who effectively intercepted these passes. Killer instict was being killed by reason. Sometimes unfortunetaly we’re best at ‘f**k it huck it’ tactic and you should use it one second after your opponent turn over the disc. Something like that and Mat threw backhand OI huck to Lucjan and started what tigers like the most. It finished good as well and Astro won 13:1.

On the other field Cool Flights from Gdansk won with Nine Hills. Next games were Gmf/pick up team against Astro and Nine Hills against Tits. Astro in comparison to Nine Hills played this one badly. Maybe it was because some of our own players went to pick up team, maybe not. Someting was wrong , handlers couldn’t get few good passes down the field and get the disc to deep cutters to score a point, while Grandmaster Flash was doing perfectly fine and with stylish easy way scoring point after point. At the end of the game we started the come back ,but it was far to late. We lost 7:10,while team from Chełmno won with Tits 7:4.

It was time for a break.. for some of us , because Cool Flights was fighting against Gmf while rest of us was restoring energy. Next two games were played just on the one field. Skirmish was won by pick up team. Cool Flights scored their points with they casual few passes flow style and huck in a proper moment. A couple of players say it’s more luck than skill, others that it’s intended ,but fact is a fact , as long as it’s working it’s worth trying. Unluckily for Cool’s the one and only guy from Warsaw Filip ,decoded their secret of playing and the final score was 12:8 for GMF.

It wasn’t last game for Cool Flights , next one was against home team Astro Disco. Proudly I say Astro played this game screaming outloud ‘Shout down D’ and it worked. It was the first tournament when we had O and D lines. Already known seven’s went into the field depending on situation. D line had such a hunger for the disc, that they got every single one of them and succesfully made it to the end-zone. We used zone D, indefatigable points of cup , wings which stopped every pass down the line , short deep who controlled potential coming-in’s and deep who intercepted forced hucks. This game was a rocket in our logo! Unforgetfull moments! The moment why this game is so amazing. It was the moment when your soul is yelling I LOVE ULTIMATE ! Zone Defence was really tight and forced our opponents to throw overheads. Młody from Cool Flights threw hummer above the cup, down the field which was shouted down by Kris. Aniou picked up the disc and here we go! Outside In flick was misreaded by both players from offense and deffense. It flew just above skying defense player ,but when he saw defender also misreading the disc went chasing the disc down the right line in the end-zone and made a sick layout and scoring the point! Just before the disc touched the ground. It was Mati and his first official layout ever ! We had been waiting for that moment for ages! The whole team run into the field screaming and jumping. He came to us running and had a face looking like - i can’t believe it ! We won this game with huge advantage and quite surely. Astro 10 - Cool Flights 3. Atmosphere was amazing. I may stop writing just now. I may but I won’t.

Like Cool Flights we also had two games in a row. It was our last game. Derby of Kujawsko-Pomorskie county. In the same time on the field one the game Gmf vs Tits was taking place. Only one which was finished with a tie. The game Nine Hills against Astro was quite athletic. Both teams tried to throw hucks so there were few great skies. Luckily for us as a more experienced team our zone defence managed to intercept the disc few times. Classic horizontal cuts in the end-zones finished set-plays which gave us few point advantage. We won 11:7.

Two last games. After these two final classification was going to be made. GMF or pick up team with lust for game players overwhelmed tired Nine Hills and won 13:2. But huge big up for Nine Hills cause they were playing with six girls on the line for some time. It was game with a lot of smiles! On the other field Cool Flights won with Tits 12:5.

Mr. Excel and his statistics rewarded players in some basic categories like scored points, asists, defences. The biggest number of points - 4 to be exactly, went to Baku from Cool Flights and Nowy from Astro Disco. Wróbel from Cool Flighs won the second award with 6 asists in one game and last but not least in defence dominated three players with 3 interceptions or lay-out’s D Popek from Tits , Filip from GMF and Lucjan from Astro Disco.

It was successul North Poland Ultimate League Inauguration! I hope your enthusiasm for Ultimate in such company will last and we’ll meet regularly!
